“Jagannath” is a compound word, consisting of “Jagat” and “Nath”. The word nath means “Master, Lord” (nātha) while jagan or jagat means the “universe”. Thus, Jagannath means “lord of the universe”. The form of Lord Jagannath is identical to ever happy and young form of lord Shri Krishna, The Supreme Personality of Godhead. This for is worshipped for long time in Puri (Orissa, India). One per year a great festival takes place there, whis is called “Ratha-Yatra” (“The festival of carts”).
